"because of everything"
11" x 14" ; Photoshop Collage ; 2025
This piece was a reworking of an old piece from 2022, also done in photoshop, and drawn. During my winter quarter at SCAD, we had to create a digital collage, and I think it was finally realized in the way I envisioned it.Juxtaposition between the fish and the wings exhibits the opposites, the sea and sky coming together in one piece; while the statue-esque figure represents humankind, and how we are, essentially, unmoving in the grand scheme of life. Yet, the fish and the wings move around us anyways. It combines all aspects of life: the dark, the light, the sea and sky, and us.Because of everything, we are here.
"Piece of Me"
10" x 12" ; India Ink on Water color Block ; 2025
An experimental piece. I'm very grateful for SCAD, not just for the privilege of a higher education, but also the passion to explore new mediums and find not just my own inclination and competencies in them, but also grow as an artist and push myself past my comfort zone. I discovered a fondness for india ink, and for once in my life, a paintbrush. With that, and some exploratory emotions and some free time, I constructed "piece of me".It is the Laysan's Albatross holding, almost gingerly, an Atlantic Salmon in it's beak, seemingly above the void. It's inherently predatory nature inspired an obvious power dynamic, while also displaying to viewers the empathy, gentleness, and almost a curiosity that are obvious in the Albatross' eyes. The salmon, however, seems fearful, missing a chunk from it's back. I made in response to the stress and traumas I receive from my parents, despite my love of them. While they, like the Albatross, have empathy, gentleness, and curiosity, they still hold the Salmon--already damaged from a previous entanglement--in place, in the peril of the Albatross' beak.
